Elena Perikleous
Commissioner for the Protection of Children’s Rights, Republic of Cyprus
Elena Perikleous was born with an itch – the itch of searching. Since childhood, she gathered words, observed silences, and listened to stories whispered by trees and book pages.
She studied Education and pursued postgraduate studies in Environmental Education, believing that caring for nature and caring for children are vessels of the same sensitivity.
Today, as the Commissioner for the Protection of Children’s Rights, Elena consistently serves the vision of a society that listens to, understands, and respects the voice of every child. Through her work in education, culture, and literature, she defends every child’s right to life, expression, participation, and access to art and culture.
Elena Perikleous has published twenty-eight books for children, young adults, and adults, many of which have been honored with State Literature Awards and distinctions from literary organizations in Cyprus and Greece.
She believes that every story is a seed – and when planted with love, the world blossoms.
